The Building Detective GuideTM
How to find Mold in Your Home
The easiest way to find mold in your home is to find the
source of the water leak, condensation, or seep, which is causing it to grow on
the building materials.
Warm damp spots inside a home create the perfect environment for the growth of
noxious or toxic levels of mold and concentrated mold spore releases. The
MoldCheck™ Test Kit’s sampling films will show you the relative mold spore count in each
room. If your home has a mold problem, it is most likely hidden in or near the
rooms with the highest mold spore counts. The next step is to use The Building
Detective Guide™ to conduct a detailed water leak search of the rooms with the
highest spore counts.
The Building Detective GuideTM, included in your MoldCheck™ Mold Test
Kit, will take you through a step-by-step detailed inspection of your home,
apartment or office in order to help you determine if there is a source of mold
growing within the building. You will be looking for signs of mold growth or
water leaks and stains - mold needs moisture in order to grow.
The Building Detective GuideTM will help you locate the nooks and
crannies of your home where you are likely to find the hidden mold and source of
water and dampness which is enabling the mold to grow.
Mold growing in any space inside a home or office will produce millions of
spores and gases which can travel through almost any type of opening and spread throughout
a home, moving on air currents and drafts and through heating and cooling ducts.
Remember mold spores (seeds) are so small that they are impossible to see.

Actively growing mold may not be visible or odorous. It may be behind walls,
wallpaper, beams, tile, etc. The mold “problem” may occur “on and off” due to
high or low humidity and disturbances by people, pets or air currents. Even some
of the most toxic molds (i.e., Stachybotrys Chartarum) do not have any known
identifiable odor.
The MoldCheck™ Mold Test Kits include
The Building Detective GuideTM, which contains 18 building search
categories to guide you through a complete mold and moisture inspection. This
Guide is an indispensable part of the
MoldCheck™ Mold Test Kits. Following these steps will help you
locate the sources of mold contamination growing in your home.

Mold Identification/Laboratory Testing
If your surface test confirms you have mold contamination and
you want to have the mold identified, send the mold
sampling swab to a "specialized testing laboratory." For a separate fee,
this specialized laboratory can conduct microscopic identification of all the
molds on your
sample. You can send swabs to Home Health Science too! Check the kit for instructions.
