What, Black Mold Worry?

Everyone is so concerned about black mold. Indeed, Stachybotrys, this so-called black mold, might be the most dangerous, but is also easy to spot, and should be taken care of in the same manner as all molds. You’ve probably heard the most about this type of mold in the news, and it probably comes up first on internet string searches. Truth be told, it is dangerous, and should be taken seriously. But you don’t have to become a scientist – or even personally consult a scientist – to learn all you need to know about black mold.

Like other molds it will grow inside buildings that are poorly maintained or damaged by water. It appears as a green and black slime, or, when there is no longer any water present, it will have a dry and powder texture. The only real way to know positively if the mold you have is black mold, a scientist would have to observe it under a microscope, but if you have something in your home that looks like black mold, than it should be dealt with regardless!

Sure, the media will give you reason to panic. Truth be told, there is reason to be concerned: black mold spores can be the root cause of a myriad of health concerns including respiratory problems, skin inflammation, nausea, tiredness, immune system suppression, and other concerns. Certainly if a family member experiences some kind of sickness and you can’t readily identify the cause, you might want to have a look around your house, and see if there is a source of mold. It’s possible, The important thing is not to panic.

If you do find black mold in your home, it may be necessary to call the professionals to remove it, as doing it yourself can lead to inadvertent exposure. Keep in mind that if black mold is the culptri of your problem, then you’ve probably let your problem go unchecked for too long, as this type of mold needs more time to grow.
